I have a seasoned NPR broadcast voice that can sound warm and authoritative, sexy or humorous. My normal accent is North American standard broadcast. I am originally British and can do British London working class (cockney), British middle class or upper class (RP). I do a standard Irish accent that would be considered broadcast or a Galway (West of Ireland) accent.

My Voice Experience

My voice is known to Public radio listeners around California and on many National Public Radio shows through my 15 years as a public radio reporter. I've voiced reports for: Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Living On Earth, BBC Outlook, Performance Today, On the Media, The Infinite Mind, Latino USA, Art Beat. I have also been heard as the host of the XM Satellite radio show and podcast Animals Aloud. I have also done voice-over promotions for XM satellite radio. I was the narrator on SFMOMA's podcast for December 2005, and the voice over narrator on a video documentary for American Rivers. In 1996 I was the face and voice for a Bay Area transit links video.

My Training

I attended acting classes at U.C. Berkeley, and at A.C.T in San Francisco. I also studied voice acting at Voice One in San Francisco. Most of my training has been on the job since 1989 as a reporter, newscaster and announcer on KQED, KALW, ITN World News, and for National Public Radio programs.
My training in voice acting began in the Rhetoric Department at U.C. Berkeley where I studied oral interpretation of literature and poetry.

Additional Skills

I am a radio producer and have my own recording equipment, an RE-20 mic and mixer. I edit my own interviews using Adobe Audition or ProTools. I have been editing audio for 20 years and have used digital editing software for 15 years. I write and voice all the material for my radio show Animals Aloud, including XM promos and have written all of the scripts for my radio reports for NPR. I have also freelanced as a TV newswriter since 1989, so have a lot of experience in writing short to-the-point stories.
