Voice Description

For narration, my voice is thoughtful, warm, commanding, empathetic and always professional.

My voice for commercials can be fun, flirty, and always ready to play along with clever copy.

The professional speaker in me knows how to capture an audience by being both commanding and human. The prose voice in me knows how to maintain a narration while creating fun, memorable characters.

My Voice Experience

As a national television journalist for 26 years, I have narrated countless documentaries. Depending on the subject, my voice for this work is thoughtful, warm, commanding, empathetic and always professional.

With short magazine style segments and promotion voiceovers that accompany them (which are like commercial work), my voice can be fun, flirty, and always ready to play along with clever copy.

As a professional speaker and as a champion collegiate speech team member, my voice can lure an audience, keep it captive by presenting not just words but a human touch. People believe I am talking directly to them. Throughout my career, I have written most of my own copy, so, I know how to write for my voice. When you need a voice to break through and present leave people feeling encouraged, hopeful and human, I can do that.

In college, my specialty was oral interpretation of prose and poetry. For this, my voice is perfect for audiobooks. As the state champion my junior year and as a national semi-finalist in prose my senior year, I'm able to maintain a narration while creating different characters throughout the story. From fierce, fiery women to young boys, I've used my voice to create a range to characters.

My Training

* BA Communications, Broadcast Journalism

* 26 Years as an Award-winning National and Local Broadcast Journalist

* Award-winning member of Collegiate Public Speaking Team, focusing on Public Speaking and Oral Interpretation of Prose, Poetry and Dramatic Readings.

* Sought after Public Speaker and Emcee

My Studio Equipment

I do not have my own studio, however, I am close to and have relationships with TV/audio studios nearby. I also have a large number of friends and colleagues involved in the production field.

As a national news correspondent, I recorded and sent my by email narration using Etrak and, more recently, FlashMic systems. So, I am familiar with the technology and am a quick study. This is a new venture for me. I would be willing to invest in equipment should it become necessary and economically worthwhile for me to do so.

I have a FlashMic- FlashMic Manager to convert through Itunes to mp3
SONY MDR-V200 Headphones
Garage Band editing/mixing

Additional Skills

I'm a storyteller at heart, always have been, with both my writing and my voice. That can be easy to say yet hard to live. But I believe storytelling is at the root of who we are: we share our stories because it legitimizes our lives, our experiences. When something as short as a commercial or as long a documentary can resonate and do that, it's an honor for me to be a part of it.

I've covered all kinds of stories from breaking news like floods, hurricanes and horrific school shootings like that at Columbine to year long investigative reports dealing with psychological maladies to carefree, fun features to inspiring tales like that of Jim Morris-- the oldest rookie Major League pitcher in more than 30 years. In fact, that story and my script were in the inspiration for the movie, The Rookie, starring Dennis Quaid.

Speaking of sports, I'm a nut case for baseball, basketball and college football. And I LOVE music. My library is vast and expands nearly weekly with new artists, especially alternative bands or Americana roots music. The music infrastructure has changed vastly, as you know, and requires the user to find new material. It has forced some to stick to what they've known for years because it's hard to navigate or time consuming. But I have a grasp on the digital music system because I just couldn't live without those new treasures to be found every week. Music, it's the beat of my heart.
