Florida-native, Dawn Bishop studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and now resides in Los Angeles. Her voice has been described as full, smooth, earthly, heavenly, sincere, focused, edgy and of course, timeless. In addition to her ongoing work with Sergio Mendes, Harvey Mason, and Don Grusin, Dawn is an in-demand singer. She is the "studio singer" for SouthWest Sound Recording Studio in the Los Angeles area.In the words of prominent Jazz and R&B guitarist, Phil Upchurch, "…she is the one, the golden child, and the best vocalist I've ever heard. Period."
Dawn studied piano and voice most of her life. She was the only female Commercial Arranging (composition) major in the Berklee College of Music graduating class of '92. She studied at the Actors' Workshop in Boston. Ms. Bishop studied mic and stage technique, as well as studying the singer's role in the recording studio while at Berklee. Meaning: she's pretty familliar in the recording studio and does read music (sight sings) too.
Dawn is the featured vocalist and writer of the Soundwest Sound Studio jingle, recording 8 vocal parts without any other instruments but voice. She can do this with or without previously written music arrangments. The latter is what hip-hopsters call "Freestyle". Oh, she raps too!
