Voice Description

I do have a "younger adult" sound, but with a mild resonance, which people tell me hasn't changed in 20 years. When I tell people I do voiceover, they usually respond with, "Ohhh. Yes, you DO have a good voice for that."

I've always had a touch of 'the actor' in me, so I enjoy doing slice-of-life voice acting jobs, but can also deliver good spokesman material for broadcast spots, marketing-on-hold, and the like. I recently did a voiceover for a trade-show kiosk animation that was very well received.

I've always loved doing cartoon voiceovers. I naturally 'play' with my voice, sometimes without consciously meaning to! Oh, and there's the accent thing. I've always been able to do many accents--some realistic, some just silly characterizations--but all, believable.

I can also sing, but let's be serious: I'd only do so in a deliberately comic way!

My Voice Experience

My voice work started with a part-time job at a local FM radio station when I was 25. The station manager hired me on the spot when we talked about it over the phone. While I haven't worked there for years now, every time I go back, he puts me behind the mike for spots, to read pledges, and the like.

Since that time I have voiced for many different media, often on a volunteer or adjunct basis. I even get a blast from just putting together voice over demos. By day, I'm a technical writer (and a good one at that!), but by night--I fulfill my love of this art-form every chance I get.

Some of my projects have included:
* Several radio stations, including six months with one commercial New-york market AM, and several years at two NY market FMs. At these stations, worked variously as a board operator, spot voicer, news reporter, and public affairs reporter.
* Television voiceover for a public-access program aimed at senior citizens. (Also did camera and audio production work here, character generator, etc.)
* Outgoing messages for companies' IVR and voicemail systems.
* Voiceover for trade-show kiosk animation
* Spot recording for an AM radio station in Atlantic City, NJ

My Training

I come by my talent naturally, and spend countless hours just listening to how others do it, considering how to do it better, and the like. I have a natural ear for this kind of work, and take direction well. The training I have had has mostly been as an understudy with those that did it well at places where I have worked.

My formal training is actually in electrical engineering and related technical disciplines.

* My in-house studio consists of ProTools LE 7 running on a Mac, with an AudioTechnica AT813 electret mike. I can deliver in SDII, AIFF, MP3 and OGG formats.
