I had a professor from the University in Los Angeles call me one day. We had talked for several minutes, and she stated that she studies "Dialects", and teaches them, but she couldn't place my accent. I explained to her that she would indeed have a very difficult time of that because I am originally from the south, but have a "northern" Turkish accent, and now live and work in the PNW. I also got a call from an “agent” that asked me to come to Hollywood. He absolutely promised he would get me a work in short order. He was a very likable person, but I am old and cautious, and besides, I can’t give personal information when I’m at work. I just chalked it up to a nice compliment and took the next call. (I work at a call center taking about 100 calls per day for Verizon Wireless)
