I have been the voice of the San Francisco Ballet, The Seattle Opera, the audio guide of the Manhattan Museum of the American Indian and numerous PSAs and have as well been totally wacky in animations doing numerous carton characters, the cold ironical narrator, the warm friendly inviter and a personal favorite, the commercial for a very sexy "personal care product" offered by Neiman Marcus one Christmas,( on screen a beautiful woman is settling into a luxury bath) and I have been Santa Claus.
I learned this profession mostly by doing it. Hours spent in post production laying down voice tracks. My training is that of an actor, but I have worked mostly as a journalist and have filled in for colleagues to do BBC Radio broadcast. I have dubed in many languages, Italian, Spainish, Farsi, though having no command of that language.
Was most fortunate to have exceptional voice training with the Royal Shakespeare Company, an emphasis on using one's entire body for voice creation.
Do a one man show in which I am a cowboy, mule skinner, an old Indian, Albert Einstein, Will Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Ghandi and others.
In addition to basic reporting have written press releases and promotional, fund raising letters and ad copy.
