As a member of the Los Angeles Angels speakers bureau I have used my voice to motivate, inspire, entertain, and emotionally impact others. Strangers are frequently telling me that I have a radio voice. This often happens after I give a speaking presentation or speak to someone on the phone who I have never met. They tell me my voice talents should be used for voice overs or as a radio voice for an FM station that plays "cool jazz". I have heard these types of comments often enough that I am convinced I would do well as a voice over artist. I have the ability to sound commanding, soothing, excited, and (most of all) real. The key to my voice is that people believe what I say.

My Voice Experience

I announced local football games on the radio at age 18. I learned that I could still be entertaining with a team that went 0-10. For what it's worth, I was also able to talk coherently outdoors with a wind chill factor below 0.

Being a professional baseball player allowed me to do numerous radio and TV interviews. I am comfortable and confident in front of a microphone. I have looked into voice over opportunities in the past and although I believe I impressed the company staff I am pretty certain they wanted my money more than my voice.

My Training

My strict voice over training is minimal. The skills that I have acquired are the result of being on the radio more times than I can count and learning how to speak to various types of audiences over the past 15 years. I have become very adept at using my various vocal abilities to make the individuals I talk to feel all the emotions they contain.

Additional Skills

My intelligence and excellent sense of humor work well to disarm those who are intimidated by my professional background and size. I look more like a retired NFL tight end than a baseball pitcher.

I am also a writer which is a profession that requires one to develop another type of "voice". It is like telling a painter to develop his own style.
