My Voice Experience

I stepped up to the mic for the first time in 1965 as a student broadcaster,landed my first professional radio gig in 1968 as a part-timer knocking down ninety cents an hour and lived in Radio for 30 plus years.

I was offered my first real voice over gig in 1971 by Brad Bate, a former news anchor and Chicago film producer. I’ve been chasing that work ever since. In 1976 I received formal training in voice over/voice acting from the premier Chicago V.O. coach, Kirk Johnson who at that time hung his hat with Studio One.

Over the years I’ve delivered a couple thousand commercial scripts, institutional narrative and the rest for clients big and small. My voice work was once featured on the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw as a sound bite meant to represent Miami Radio (it was a big deal at the time). For what it's worth, I was a cast member (small part) in a “documentary” about the making of the film, Blair Witch Project which aired on the SciFi Channel. Heck, I’ve even done a couple of movie trailers although I’m hardly a movie trailer guy. I’ve won a bunch of awards and “attaboys” for creative, production and talent.

My Training

Aside from my focus on Speech and Theater from grade school to college, I first learned my craft by listening and doing. I spent countless hours recording and playing back, making corrections and recording again.

In spite of all that work, the most profound learning experience came through training from Chicago V.O. coach, Kirk Johnson.

My Studio Equipment

My studio compliment includes the basics. ProTools, Digidesign interface, a Mackie 1202, Sony PCM 2500, MDX 2200 Composer Pro, EV RE20 and the usual complement of source devices.

The internet connection is of course broadband
