My Voice Experience

I was first introduced to voice overs through my work as a vocalist in the opera, jazz, gospel and musical theater genres. I was doing a lot of on-air singing spots for my college radio station and this led to some voice over work for student-related humorous skits and announcements on the air. Once in a while I was asked to voice advertisements for local businesses as well. But I didn't pursue voice overs professionally until 2003, when I moved back to my hometown of New York City and began working with sound engineers and musicians. I was sometimes asked to come in and audition for voice over spots and pretty soon I landed my first television commercial voice over for a new line of Wedgwood crystal tableware. This was soon followed by a web ad for a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary as well as numerous voice over jobs for independent films, promos and language learning tools. I continue to earn work mostly in commercials, industrials and promos, but occasionally I get to do a voice over in Italian or utilize my ability with accents.

My Training

I received a BA in English Literature from Harvard University and an MA in French and Italian Literature from Oxford University. I have studied voice overs extensively with Marla Kirban, Terri Apple, Lainie Cooke, Lesley Freedman and Charles Michel and have taken an advanced workshop with J.J. Adler. I'm also a trained actor, singer and dancer. I completed a 2-year Meisner program at the William Esper Studio and have had 20 years of dance and vocal training, as well as training in Voice and Speech, Improvisation and Public Speaking. I am also a freelance writer and have written journalistic pieces on dance, opera, theater, media and communications for various newspapers, magazines and trade journals.
