Voice Description

I've always had a flair for the dramatic! I love to play around and find just the right voice for a project. I can jump from a bright, bubbly and energetic voice to rich and soothing serious voice. I'm a Texas girl, but I actually have very little accent at all. I have an "adaptable" voice, that easily can assume many different personalities.

My Voice Experience

Since I was a little girl, my voice was always my most entertaining toy. Not only did I amuse myself with it, but it made other people laugh, too! That, I discovered, gave me great satisfaction. When I grew up, a voice career seemed quite natural. And easy. The start-up cost was basically nothing. Just me and my voice. We go everywhere together anyway, so why not?
For the past 12 years, most of my recording experience has been in radio commercials. I've done extensive work for radio stations in the Texas Hill Country--KHLB and KITY to name a few. The range of my work covers everything from ads for hospitals and insurance companies to pizza joints and flowers shops to automotive shops and feed stores. Remember. I said I was versatile!
For the past three years I've promoted Scholastic Book Fairs for area elementary and high schools. For elementary schools, it involves creating a story, a character and weaving a tale that is progressive and continues every morning for one week during announcement time. I've been everything from a ranch hand to a librarian who has come into contact with life from another planet to a friendly octopus.
I've also worked for companies to produce their "on-hold" messages. These companies range from car dealerships to hospitals.

My Training

Though it sounds odd, I actually learned the most about voiceover by simply playing with my own voice. I used it to amuse my small children and their friends with fun voices and accents long before I ever used it for profit!
My formal education is in journalism and public relations. I received a degree from The University of Texas at Austin and received a prestigious internship with GSD&M Advertising Agency. Before I actually got a job in voiceover, I wrote advertising copy. I wrote what I knew would "sound" great when it was read. I heard how it should sound in my head.
Eventually I ended up in a voice acting class taught by a woman named Laney Frasier, who was then the leading voice actress in Austin, Texas. Laney helped me fine tune my voice skills doing exercises that involved imitating a rubber band! Don't ask! I've been doing voiceover ever since.

Additional Skills

Writing has also been, and continues to be, a big part of my life. Each word is important. Especially when you only have 30 seconds to convey a message. I learned that when I was writing, and when I began doing voice work it helped me to have that understanding. In my voice training I was taught early on to create a story for the "person" I am voicing. This certainly makes a job more fun for me and the outcome more effective and satisfying for the client.
