Voice Description

I have a friendly, expressive voice that I can easily adapt to your needs. I can deliver a wry, bemused take on a commercial, or a credible, seemingly "expert" take on more technical or instructional material. While I'm a native English speaker, I grew up all over Latin America and can read Spanish copy with a believable "native" accent. I can also adapt my singing voice to fit a number of genres.

My Voice Experience

I've always been drawn to two types of voice over jobs: ones that allow me to tell a story in my "natural" voice (whether it's a 30 second spot or a long narration), and others that really stretch my talents (e.g. voicing both JFK and Nixon in a radio recreation of their famous debates, or acting in a rapid-fire multiple-character Firesign Theater play). I've delivered film narration, dramatic broadcasts, technical training classes and public presentations in a wide variety of venues. The common thread in all these projects has been my steady, professional attention to detail, confidence in my ability to meet any client's needs--and my ability to listen closely to colleagues, directors and coaches.

I currently use a Neumann TLM103 microphone, Allen & Heath mixer. I record with Adobe Audition or Audacity software, depending upon the complexity of the project. I have an ISDN-equipped home studio.

Additional Skills

Spending most of my formative years in Latin America gave me an invaluable education in seeing things from an international perspective. I also spent many years in the computer industry, and am extremely comfortable trouble-shooting technical problems and dealing with jargon-laden gobbledygook. I have a B.A. in Political Science/English minor, University of Maryland, College Park. I am a musician (singer and guitarist) with an encyclopedic knowledge of (and passion for) music and musical history, regardless of genre. I am an unabashed history buff, with a special interest in U.S., British and Latin American history, and the Cold War. I also have an abiding amateur interest in science, especially evolutionary biology and cosmology.
