Voice Description

After many years as a Television Announcer, Newcaster, Programme Presenter, recording of Talking Books (over 300) and Voice-over artist there are few character voices I have not done. They range from soft sell for quality products like expensive jewellery, works of art, theatre and classical music promotions etc to character/comic voices, from the multi-character voices needed in Talking Books to the straight reading of poetry, from serious documentary to my 'Santa' voice voted the best in the country by Commercial Radio!

My voice has been described as 'sympathetic and understanding' and has been used many times at humanitarian funerals!

50 years mainly in television and radio presentation but with a considerable number of stage,television,radio drama appearances as well) have given me a background of literally thousands of Commercials, documentary VOs, Audiobooks.

Described as 'sympathetic and understanding' I have been used to advertise quality products and promote symphony concerts and theatre rather than baked beans, though I've done my share of hard sell for those too!

My Training

I have had the best training in voice-over work by doing it for many years. I've also been a singer, actor, after-dinner speaker, trade show presenter, scriptwriter.

My Studio Equipment

I am in the process of changing the equipment I have in my studio (Good Companions Studios of Carlisle)and have till now used reel-to-reel machines (Revox B77 Mark 11), Tascam and Akai)with Shure and Sennheiser microphones. I have 24 copying machines for duplication of audio-cassettes.

Additional Skills

Script editing, proof reading, scripting including years of a daily radio serial for children in which I played 12 different characters including a bombastic cockerel, 2 Mafia-like frogs always causing mayhem, a gentle ex-pit pony now retired from the coalmines, an all-seeing owl while my actress wife presented the story!!
In my early years my family had a nursing home near London and the elderly patients I found useful material on which to base some of my characters - bombastic politicians, apologetic church ministers, high court judges.
