My Voice Experience
I was once cast as Eliza Doolittle for a reading of 'My Fair Lady' in my Senior English Lit class on the basis that I was the only one who could understand and duplicate her horrible Cockney accent.
My mother, who is a little neurotic and entirely lovable, often wants to me talk to her and doesn't listen to a word I say, but how I say the words. She has a fondness for the accents I can duplicate and finds my normal speaking voice relaxing, which is not very useful when I trying to tell her something important and she falls asleep.
I'm quirky, and may possibly have multiple personality disorder, and my voice and tone reflects that.
I've always been a fairly good mimic, and even if the outcome isn't exact, it is usually fairly amusing.
Now on to my experience. The majority of it was high school based, as far as the performance portion. I've been in several plays, musicals and oral presentations.
I was in choir from my 6th grade year until my senior year, when I chose to focus more on my Thespian projects.
My vocal range for singing varies based on the song and style, but generally can shift from soprano to alto.
After high school, I said hello to the real world and used my acting skills and vocal prowness on a far more boring audiance: customers to which I provided service.
From the years of 1998 to 2004, I was in the telesurvey, tele-customer service and tele-collections business. Not fufilling, but I did get t use my best tools: my voice and acting. I can sound utterly devoted and concerned about someone's problems and issues while giving myself a fabulous manicure and doing a crossword puzzle.
More recently I got out of that profession and became the eventual general manager of a new age store. Much more up my alley.
In the course of this job I have done two recorded commercials for our store along with writing and perfoming our jingle. There will be included in my demos.
I'm also told I sound like a phone sex operator whenever I answer the phone at work.
I suppose that's always an option.
