My Voice Experience
In 1988, while living in Phoenix, Arizona, I started to call radio stations to request songs and was told time and again that I have a great voice for radio. I was asked to record (via phone) teasers and song introductions for different DJs that I had befriended. I often recorded these in one take. I would wait (sometimes hours) to hear myself on the radio. The first time I heard it, I was hooked! I did numerous recordings over the next three years.
In 1992, I was asked to record all messages (incoming, outgoing, and all eight selections, special messages, and announcements) for CrackerJax Family and Fun Park in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was paid the moderate sum of $50.00, but heard my voice on the recording for nearly two years after I ended my employment there. I did go into a studio and read off of a script that was prepared for me and provided to me the day of the recording.
In 1996, I began working at Karaoke Star in Phoenix, Arizona. I worked as a Karaoke Jockey and also operated the store recording studio. I recorded songs that were used on complilation CDs to advertise the studio and store. I continued to work in this capacity from 1996 through 1999.
In 2007, while working at Option One Mortgage Corporation in Irvine, California, I was asked to record the voice of a customer for a corporate video that I conceptualized, scripted, and performed. This video was used to train all new hires on how to appropriately interact with customers (both Dos and Don'ts). I was also asked to perform the part of an employee for a video commercial that was conceptualized and scripted by other designers on the team.
In 2007 and 2008, while working at Apria Healthcare in Lake Forest, California, I was asked to record the voice of three seperate avatars to be used in New Hire, Software, and Logistics training courses. I scripted and performed all avatar characters. Each avatar had a different personality (professional, excited and light, serious and concerned).
