Cheryl Dux

Character Specialist/Quirky/Smooth/Deep/Offbeat

Voice Description

I have a natural, warm, smooth, easy-going deep voice. I also have range into the light talk to weird tones; such as high-pitched screechy kid tones to, extremely low, casual sexy. Have been told that my low, voice range, can be mistaken for a man's voice, as well as a convincing child's voice.

My Voice Experience

Ever since, I have been a wee lass, I have loved cartoon voices and wanted to be a cartoon character. As soon as I learned to read, I practiced reading out loud and my English teachers on many occasions said, that I read well. As a teenager, I always practiced different voices in my bedroom recording on a ghetto blaster or changing the answering machine messages. Went to college for broadcasting so I would get experience in how recordings are done etc. As my voice matured, have been told by many friends and strangers that I have a great voice. Did do some college voice-over recordings for class projects for our college radio station. After college, had to start my career all the while, on the back burner was my desire to get into the voice over business but got deep in the post production career so my time was devoted to learning audio production. Gaining audio production skills over the years, I found time to take a voice-over class from Cynthia Songe at Sue Blu Productions, to hone my skills and learn about the world of voice over talent. Since, then it was back to the career but found my path has directed me back toward my love of doing voices and am now making time to get myself out into the world. Purchased a microphone and tools and am now recording, editing and mixing voice samples to show my range and quirkiness.

My Training

In elementary school, did performances such as, pretended to be Albert Einstein for a bibliography assignment that later was asked to do again for the lower grade kids and was also in a oratorical contest.
In high school was in drama class and acted in many school plays.
Attended San Francisco State University and received a Bachelors degree for Radio/Television. I majored in audio production in hopes to lead me toward ADR and or a voice-over career. Classes involved voice-over recording and editing, and creating short skits and interstitials to play on the college radio.
Attended voice-over class at Blupka Productions with Sue Blu/Cynthia Songe in 2006.
Proficient in using protools, and through my career have learned to record, edit and mix and create my own skits/demos.
