Voice Description

My voice has always elicited various emotions from family and friends. At an early age I discovered my "death" voice, or what I call my "Dr. Claw voice" from the cartoon Inspector Gadget. I also have a "male opera voice" that I can sing or speak with. My voice can be fun and sensual, deep and mysterious, warm and soothing. I also do a rather excellent British accent, a darn good Irish accent, and can be a Southern Bell or an angry Texan.

My Voice Experience

As mentioned above, I started finding my voices at an early age. I discovered my "Dr. Claw" voice at the age of 4. The male opera voice won a contest in which I dressed up as a "He-She" where half my face and outfit was "male" and the other female. I moved my head side to side throughout a song singing in either a male or female opera voice, respectively. That voice also won me the role of a ten-foot tall puppet prince in high school. The audience never knew I was the one doing the voice, even though I was in plain view. In school I acted and my unique voice came into play often. My mother once scolded me for sounding like a 4 year old (which I was playing) in a rendition of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown". Since highschool however, my voice over talent has mosly been used to make my family and friends laugh. I am ready to branch out.

My Training

I basically trained myself. I pick up accents quickly and learned most of them by watching movies and television or listening to stories told by one person that uses several voices. That way I can learn how one person can manipulate their own voice. I was very involved in the performing arts from elementary through high school, and can sing anything from Ella Fitzgerald to classical choir.

Additional Skills

Everyone uses different voices when talking to different types of people. Adolescents talk to their parents one way and their friends another (unless they want to be grounded). However, many people don't realize how many different voices they really have. I do. I have been in theater groups where my chest voice silenced a cast of 100 when a director could not. That same week I would work at a jewelry store and be the picture of poise and grace. I know what tones, language, and frequency can move an audience or move a mountain.
