Cary Galia

Flexible, Soothing, Character voices, Bi-lingual.

Voice Description

Deep, crisp and warm with well spoken, soothing clarity. Perfect for anything corporate, professional advertising or training and narrative. As well as Character Specialties.

I can do a large array of character voices that range from: monotones, serious, authoritative and harsh to high octane eccentrics, Fools, the Socially awkward and the more surreal.

A lot of my experience with character voices comes from my acting. Mostly stage which taught me true enunciation and how to manipulate and contort your voice into many different convincing forms.

On the most part however i have learned to use and manipulate my voice through trial and error since i was a child. i would never let my mother read the bed time stories instead taking the book off her and playing the characters myself. this then grew into (a most likely unhealthy) obsession.

I would love not only the opportunity to use my voice in other practical work, but also to experiment as i love to push myself further with any challenge i am given.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I have a queer possibly unhealthy interest in learning how to convincingly mimic and learn new accents. So much so that I take advantage of friends (However long they last) by use of phone calls and pranks to test how convincing my voice really is. When i can fool a native speaker, that is when i am content to say that i am competent with the accent.

English standard, RP, BBC English, Archaic/Old English, London, East End, Yorkshire, Sheffield Yorkshire, Liverpool, Cumbrian, Rural Cumbrian, Carlisle,

Irish: Southern Irish, Dublin Irish,

Scottish: Glaswegian, Edinburgh, Dumfries.

American: American Standard, Italian American, New York, Texas, Southern States, Californian, California Surfer.

International: Australian, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Turkish.

My character voices are many, whenever i receive a new character i usually try to develop there own personal voice or way of speaking. I love to play with voices. i enjoy imitation but on the most part with accents. I love however to develop and create new voices. I always try to find an excuse to create a new voice and when i do my enthusiasm as to my new discovery tends to worry many of those close to me.

My Voice Experience

My Experience in this field specifically is limited as i have only just left university and begun to concentrate my efforts on voice work itself as well as other acting work.

here are some examples of solely voice work:

Little Italy Restaurant - Answering machine Voicemail.

York St John University - Sound Equipment check.

York St john University - Create Festival Announcer

Ionesco's "The Leader" - The Announcer

Ellie Brown's "His Confession" - The unseen voice

However i have had much experience in using my voice in many different visual performances.

here are some examples of acting work to which i was required to use my skills with voice. with a description of the voice beside.

Berkoff's "The trial" - Warden 1/Warden2(Cockney)

Berkoff's "Metamorphosis" - Mr Samsa(Senior, well spoken, harsh, English )

Somerset Maugham's "The Noble Spaniard" - The Noble Spaniard (Spanish)

Ionesco's "The Bald Prima Donna" - Mr Smith (RP English)

Ionesco's "The Shepherds Chameleon" - Bartholomeus (Maniacal, high pitched, raven like)

Dario Fo's "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" - The Maniac (High energy, eccentric, spontaneously changing well spoken Irish tone)

Oscar Wilde's "The importance of being Earnest" - Algeonon (Well spoken, aristocratic, Archaic/Old English)

Jean Genet's "The Balcony" - The Judge (Well Spoken, Harsh, authroitative Scottish)

Herodotus' "Sophocles" - Chorus (Whispering, gasping, rumble.)

My Training

my Professional training:

BA Hons Theatre(3 years) York St John University.

Blues Band "Oral focus" (vocals)

Most of my training however has been of my own experience and learning. I did Teach a small class of Italians on how to speak Basic English, a part of my method was to create social interaction scenarios that could be acted out and so as to make the learning process more enjoyable and closer to real life than reading from a book can provide.

I used to teach a children's drama work shop. One of the key exercises that i used to lead was with voice warm ups. teaching how important it was to stretch your voice and learn to project voice by beginning the power growth and build up of speech from the pit of the stomach.

My Studio Equipment

I have an H4N sound recorder and a Sennheiser ME 66 directional boom microphone and outdoor windshield and indoor muffler.
