Voice Description

My voice has a very wide range, depending on the situation, including vocal sound effects. As a default, my voice is warm, intimate, inviting, rich and heady, almost musical. It can be more dynamic and energetic for commercials, assertive and gritty or sensuous and enthralling as need be. I can speak very quickly or slowly and not lose pronunciation and enunciation.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I have a tremendously varied range of impersonations, characterizations and dialects. My default accent is a very clear and neutral one, but I can do: American southern drawl, Scottish, Irish, British (cockney, fop, lordly, snobby, informative), Gritty and rough, Latin-lover, Latino, Chicano, Indian (from India), Nerdy or geeky, intellectual, snob, Sensual, Old and wizened, Evil, Scary, Werewolfish, Imposing, Tender, Fatherly or mentor, preachy or teacher amongst others. I also have a wide range of vocal sound effects.

My Voice Experience

I have been apprenticing for many years now under a traditional autochthonous storyteller. About five years ago I began using my voice on stage in performance and musical pieces. My first professional recording was two years ago for a series of English guide books that were accompanied by a an audio CD that had native speakers reading certain sections found in the book. This is where it was discovered that my voice is very favourable to the microphone. Since then I have taken on mostly narration jobs for normal fiction and kid's books and smaller character pieces. I have a way of both enthralling the listener and making the characters come to life.

My Training

I am a B.A. in English currently working on a Masters degree in Jungian/Archetypal Psychology with an emphasis on Mythology. I am also working towards certification as a Bodymind-Movement somatic therapist. I have been in voice coaching now for two years. I have taken extensive somatic therapy courses that focus on voice. I am apprenticed under a traditional native story teller. I have studied and continue to practice harmonic and throat singing, which has given me a very deep understanding of the voice. I also took acting classes while in college. I have been an English Literature teacher for about seven years. I have done vocals in music projects.

My Studio Equipment

I have a home studio with:
Ableton Live 8 on a Macbook Pro;
a Presonus Firestudio interface with pre-amp and phantom power;
a Behringer B1 condenser microphone; and
a well acoustically-shielded sound booth.

I have quite a bit of experience with the software that I use. I can send a file in any sound format. I can add music and effects to a file.

Additional Skills

I am a Jungian/Archetypal Psychotherapist and a Somatic Therapist where I work with sound and voice in a therapeutic context.

I am a professional storyteller and have also given Mythology classes and workshops. I work in the lessons through rich storytelling, where I both enthral the listeners and make the characters come to life.

I have been a formal English and Literature teacher for seven years teaching adults, teenagers and kids. Currently I work at an international school at the preparatory and secondary level. It is often commented that my voice is a powerful tool.
