My Voice Experience
Approximately 15 years ago I was a volunteer who did voice overs for the local public television station. When the station relocated I ended my gig with it. Four years ago I began as a volunteer again, this time for the Readers Radio group that provides news and entertainment for the visually impaired. I read novels for Readers Radio, having completed Bel Canto, Ordinary Heroes, and The Cat Who Knew Too Much. I'm currently reading Cold Mountain with the next book, Touch the Top of the World, lined up. I record in a studio at the local PBS station using a program called QuickRecord and bringing the digital tapes to my home to edit, using Adobe Audition 1.5. (Reading Radio recently got the most current version of Audition and I plan to learn to use it.) I use my Audition program to edit my tapes, removing dead air, misreads and stumbles. I mix down 30-minute tapes (which are usually about 25 minutes after editing) into 55-minute episodes. I do not add music or the like; another volunteer does that part.
My Training
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Arts degree in Library of Science from the University of Iowa. I have acted in and directed community theatre from 1975 on. In the past five years I have conducted workshops on "Teaching as Performance" for various librarian groups around the eastern part of the U.S. and Canada. I also have 25 years of classroom teaching experience.
My Studio Equipment
I have Adobe Audition 1.5 on my home computer but use it for very basic editing only.
