Bruce Harvey

FM Male, deep, bold, soft, sexy, Dad, accents ...

Voice Description

Straight up, it's an urban, eastern FM male voice, low baritone or high bass - soft or sharp as need be. Narrations depend on the material, from PBS Science and History style to Military Channel In-Your-Face Datum style. Commercials run the gamut, but mostly excited/interested/factual/friendly. Presentations show the voice to be interesting, varied, yet very pleasant to hear. So do the mechanical announcements ("8th Street, next stop. Please do not place packages on the seat next to you.")

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Characters range from the simpleminded to the effete, uncultured to overcultured, most "anglo" accents (british, english, scottish, irish, australian, bahston, suthen, Wesstrn, Eesten, Northern (don't you know, eh?), and just plain middle america. If it's gotta be in your face, it's there. All sorts of politically-incorrect accents, as in the Old Days of Radio (bad italian, bad french, bad german, bad mobster, bad low-level crook, bad (accent) cop, bad private detective. Bad refers to it being what would now be considered to be un-pc. Absent-minded is one of the most fun!

My Voice Experience

Although I started in Boston in 1979, with the great and powerful Roberto Mighty (home of Midgard productions), I really haven't had many commercial gigs. A few commercials, radio theater role (sort of a downtown Karate Kid), and a few TV commercial voiceovers in the Philadelphia pretty outlined what I've done. College got in the way. Well, finishing college. Then eating. And transport. Then ... well ... getting married, starting a family, yada, yada, yada. And, so the story of the certified IBM POWER AIX Engineer who wants to go back and start it up all over again. Do what I really want to do. Besides make voicemail announcements that women swoon over, I want to become the new Carl Kassel and make announcements on other peoples' answering machines! And now that he's retiring ........

My Training

Auditioned for, was accepted by, and studied at Boston University's School for the Arts. Theatre always a large part. Yes, musical theatre, too, sad to say. (o-k-l-a-h-o-m-a ... A Secretary is Not a Toy ... You Are the Light of the World! etc.) ... almost got into voiceover work during college, and would have ... except for college.

My Studio Equipment

My home equipment at the present time consists of an M-audio digital preprocessor and an AKG C3000B mic. I have a wonderful soft-filled closet at home. Starting off with what I have -- Windows -- and when the $$ get good enough, I'll move to the Mac.

Additional Skills

I work out of my house, so I have plenty of time to arrange for recording during daytime and nighttime. While you're there if you need any help with your IBM AIX/Linux/PowerVM servers, just let me know. :)
