Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Basically a midwest US dialect without the "twang". Have been mistaken on readings before as South African English.
I also can do the "hillbilly/poor white trash" dialect as well as the "over the top" self important dramatic.
My Voice Experience
Have done some voice-overs for radio commercials as well as voice-overs and on-camera TV spots.
Most of these have been for Mortgage and Real Estate spots where the companies needed a believable and authoritative presence to spotlight there services.
The radio spots evidently made an impression since many times in a store or office, someone I didn't know would hear me speaking and would look twice to see if the voice was me or if the commercial was playing.
Also have done many live narrations over the years for plays and community church groups. Most of these were either the "voice of God" or an Old testament Prophit. Since these were live narrations, it was neccesary to have the cadence and timing coordinated with the other music and action. Many times I was told the audience assumed this was a professionally pre-recorded narration that the Church had purchased.
My Training
My formal training is in business and Optics. However I have had some public speaking courses, literature and drama classes, which I really enjoyed and got a lot out of. The best training, perhaps, is when I fill in at local churches as visiting speaker. I am very aware of my voice control and impact in order to keep the interest of the congregation as well as to be sure the point I am making is heard and remembered.
My Studio Equipment
To be very honest, other than a recorder and my PC, I have no other equipment. I have always gone to a sound studio. Should the right opportunity come along, I would be willing to look at securing the required equipment.
Additional Skills
With my decades of experience in business (financing, real estate, mortgaging) as well as my customer service skills as a dispensing Optician, I can fully appreciate the value of getting a message across for the results needed. Also, with 9 grandkids as well as a whole pack of nieces, nephews and my own kids having grown up with my stories and tall tales, I believe I am very capable of getting and holding listeners attention. I also am very well read and enjoy an eclectic variety of music, spoken word and literature.
