My Home Base

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Characters come easily. I do seven different Irish accents, one Scottish, two English, four American, and three Canadian. I pick up accents quickly from native speakers. Can deliver a low laugh to sound soothing or maniacal. Characters include: redneck, news broadcaster (host), reporter (news and or sports), pitch-man, preacher (high-energy or pious), can generate a whacky cartoon-like voice in any register and derived from any of the above accents or characters.
My Voice Experience
On and off for more than 25 years I worked as a broadcaster, DJ, reporter. I produced commercials for a handful of companies including ISN Internet Inc. I can operate completely autonomous but am very coachable.
My Training
I have no formal training in voice or broadcasting. It was my voice that opened the broadcasting/reporting door for me. I am a musician, I have performed in musical theatre. For part of my career I've written essays and copy for a variety of publications and newswires including CBC, BN, CPI, Canadian press.
My Studio Equipment
I have a sound-proofed area of a room and have a high resolution Zoom stereo recorder (really good to use in the field or for for when only one track (or stereo) is needed). I have a Mac with multitrack recording software and a Behringer B-1 microphone.
Additional Skills
I have a background in sport -- football at the select level, hockey at the college level, I skated at the national team level and was a champion in archery, cycling and table tennis. I write poetry and music. I have received awards for business, academics, sports, and community involvement.
I am semi-retired after selling a company I ran for 15 years and like to read science in my spare time (astro physics, TED Talks, molecular biology, quantum theory.
I have two grown-up successful children and my wife is the central focus of my life. She retires at the end of 2010 and I am free to travel anywhere after that.
I would absolutely love to have a steady voice gig and feel I could really commit to something for a long time. For all of my life the thing most people comment on is my voice. For better or worse I've heard, "Gee, you sound like a beer commercial". People who have limited English language skills often comment that they find me very easy to understand. I can clearly enunciate without creating other voice artifacts.
