Voice Description

With a unique abaility to change and adapt to the material at hand, it is hard to label or describe my voice. I can be gritty and tough, or sugary and sweet. Age and style can be quite versatile, though girl-next-door would likely best describe my everyday conversational voice. My commercial voice is upbeat and persuasive; professional presentations are more mellow and soothing. Books and media such as TV or video games are my favorites because I can use accents or character voices- really bringing them to life.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I can be accent-neutral or use nearly any other accent, such as Southern (even by region- Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, etc.) Northern/ Midwestern (also by region- Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, Boston, Maine, etc.), Texan, Valley Girl, mentally challenged or speech impediments such as stuttering or a lisp, British (formal, informal, Cockney), Scottish, or some German, Australian, Irish, and Canadian. I can also perform any age from a child to an old woman, and enjoy impersonating/ imitating singers like Janis Joplin or Judy Garland. Cartoon and book characters are my forte- there's nothing I enjoy more than developing a new or quirky voice/ persona!

My Voice Experience

My voice work actually began at the age of 14- my brother's boss took my call one night and was so impressed by my voice talent that she hired me right there over the phone! However, my recent paid experience has been limited only by my preoccupation with building a home for myself and my husband. Volunteer work has been the majority of my voice-over work: readings for churches, libraries, schools, etc.; telephone recordings and greetings; reading to the disabled or elderly; announcements at gatherings and festivals; etc. I currently use my voice talent as a customer service representative for the Dept of Veteran's Affairs.

My Training

From telemarketing I moved into Drama and Forensics in high school, and earned an Associate's Degree in Theatre Arts in 1997. I also have experience in choirs- church and school- and am studying piano and fiddle.

My Studio Equipment

My studio is currently limited to a PC and a microphone at this time. However, I am in the process of upgrading to a more professional studio setup.

Additional Skills

I am a very quick study and have the uncanny ability to interpret and present material with the inflection and cadence of the actual writer or desired character(s). Humorous essays and comedies are a strength, as are technical writings and telephone messages. I am also extremely maleable and can present the same piece in a variety of tones or characters for greater choice or regional applications.
