My Voice Experience
My experience began with reading for the blind. I was then asked to develop and produce a daily music program that could appeal to many types of people; it needed to be an overview for people who were unfamiliar with the artist or genre of music while not talking down or insulting a more educated music listener. My style for these shows is confident yet friendly.
I was then asked to be the narrator for Rolling Stone magazine and that has allowed me to branch out more. While reading articles from the national affairs section, I maintain a calm, informative cadence but for interviews I often try to use the phrasing and cadence of the performer (if there are enough direct quotes to get a feel for it). A couple good examples are Larry David's uptight, frantic undertone and Ozzy Osbourne's rambling agony-aunt column. I don't try to imitate the artist; instead I assume their speaking style.
