My Voice Experience

I have voiced hundreds of commercials over the years since 1983, mostly for radio. My spots always stood out and I frequently had clients ask for my production. I approach every script as an individual work that deserves it's own attention to detail. Straight sales spots, concert spots requiring extensive production, phone systems, message on hold...these are all places that my voice has been used over the years.

My Training

As a musician, I have a keen sense of timing. I find this to be very important in getting the best read of a script.

My background in broadcasting has more importantly taught me what NOT to do in a commercial.

I have taken improv classes at my local theater, trained with voice coaches in Chicago (currently being coached by Edge Studio in NYC), and participate in online forums to stay abreast of the happenings in the voiceover business.

My Studio Equipment

I use my Harlan Hogan VO:1-A for everything. (The HH mic is comparable to the Neumann TLM103 but without the harsh proximity effect.) The mic plugs into a Centrance Micport Pro which goes directly into my Mac. I record dry voice with Twisted Wave and multitrack production with Logic.

When requested, I can master my voiceover tracks as well using a combination of Ozone and Waves plugins. However, I typically just provide the raw voice.

I record in a sound conditioned room and on the road with the help of my Porta-Booth Pro. It is built specifically for voiceover.

A phone patch is available for direction while recording, as well as Source Connect for live recording. I can connect via ISDN using a bridging service as well.
