Voice Description
My voice is soft, warm, and mature. It is masculine without being macho or aggressive. Depending on the communication goal, I can vary my voice from gentle to neutral to forceful.
My strengths lie in reading texts that are explanatory, informative, or persuasive. I can be humorous or serious as necessary. It is especially well suited for narratives, explanations, and directions. My voice works well with professional, educated audiences of all ages; but it also works with those where casual, vernacular speech is called for.

My Voice Experience
My background is in the areas of education and public speaking, with some community-theater acting experience thrown in. My vocal strengths lie in being able to communicate complex information in an understandable way, being informative without sounding pedantic, and being gently persuasive.
I have spoken on the BBC ("The World Today" in the UK and "The World" in the US), public radio, and local radio and television. I have also been featured in a documentary ("My War, My Story"). Additionally, I record podcasts for the school in which I teach.
My Training
I have a bachelors in English from Yale and a Masters in education from the University of Massachusetts. After years of being praised for my speaking voice, particularly in the reading of literature and speaking in front of groups, I began offering myself as voiceover talent.
For a number of years, I have also taught public speaking to high school students, have coached speech & debate teams, and have served as a judge at speech & debate competitions. This experience has helped me to better understand what constitutes effective vocal communication, as well as to better refine my own strengths.

Additional Skills
In addition to my vocal skills, I have, as a teacher of language and literature, a good sense of the communication process. Being able to balance the considerations of goal, message, audience, medium, and environment are all essential elements to that process; a successful vocal actor will understand how to manipulate these in order to be effective. I bring not only a good voice to the microphone; I also bring awareness and understanding of the art.
