Voice Description

My voice is a middle range, American voice. In choir, I can sing Tenor 2 and Baritone parts with ease. I am comfortable with a warm and deep conversational tone, smooth, or sexy, or whatever is called for by the material.

My voice can have a deep resonating tenor, or it can go high and manic.

My Voice Experience

I have taught middle school English for 9 years. During that time, I regularly incorporated read-alouds into my lessons. I would provide different voices for each character. Books had various settings - rural and urban America, India, England, Scotland. Characters - male and female - were French (my weakest accent), Scottish, British (sophisticated to Cockney), Russian, "Brooklyn" and "New York," rural, "surfer," and "ignorant redneck." Age ranges were young child to old age.

Additionally, I have performed in many community theatre plays, playing characters with a Brooklyn accent (Stanley Jerome in "Brighton Beach Memoirs"), a Dutch accent for Mr. Krahler in "Anne Frank," and with more "normal" accents (Fred in "Miracle on 34th Street" and Charlie in "Never Too Late").

My Training

The bulk of my training has come from on-stage work in local community theatre productions, both in a small, intimate theatre where it is more important to elocute and hit your syllables, and in a larger theatre where boht elocution AND projection are necessary. Additionally, I was a varsity cheerleader in college, and thus developed the ability to project my voice and protect it by talking loud without shouting.

I also direct my school system's musicals, where I constantly demonstrate to the students how to properly project their voices, develop character voices and accents, and find the emotion required for a particular scene and add that emotion to how the line is said.

Additional Skills

Working in a middle school has enabled me to keep my finger on the pulse of what's current and popular (well...some of my students might say otherwise, but such is the nature of their world!). Currently, I am the library media specialist, so have greater flexibility as far as time to devote to voice over jobs.
