Voice Description

My voice is standard British English, with the ability to do Northern and Southern England accents, formal or informal. I will do promos, either fairly high-energy or gentle and smooth; same goes for ads and documentary narration. I provide finished voice files by sending as MP3 (or WAV, but that's bigger) and can upload to an FTP site such as YouSendIt if preferred.

My Voice Experience

I've done ads and documentaries in radio and cable television back in the days of VT! Now I work from my home facility, sending MP3s to clients. More recent jobs have included ads and promos for Coastline FM in Spain (via BoJingles, a UK company) and do a music programme and both promos and commercials for the online Celtica Radio.

My Training

Background is in radio, with some cable TV experience in front of camera (when I was prettier). I specialised in news, and have a standard British narrator's voice as well as others detailed on this profile. But, although I specialised in reading news, I presented features and documentaries and recorded ads (not for my own station: it wasn't allowed). Good narration voice that can be expressive in an explanatory way ("this is how you do it"), so useful for how-tos. I copy-edit and index books, so am au fait with the requirements of the written word, which is relevant because I have a sensitivity to how the written word should be presented for the voice. Some things work better than others.

My Studio Equipment

Yoga Condenser mic EM-501 with pop shields. Use Cool Edit Pro, which is excellent for editing. Neutral studio space (no background noise).

Additional Skills

I can also see which scripts work well for the spoken word, because in another incarnation I have edited the written word, and, as you can see from elsewhere in this profile, have had radio experience, which has involved writing, of course, for the voice.
