Voice Description

RANGE: Baritone - can go deeper, and I have a decent falsetto range, too, albeit a kind of cartoony/Monty Pythony one.

CHARACTERS: I can do "Average Joe" pretty well, but I really like doing impressions and accents. Not only can I do British, but I can specifically do: Manchester, London, cockney, Scottish, "Posh", and Welsh dialects. I can also do a decent Irish accent, and various comical takes on French, Russian, Eastern European, etc.

TONE: For a while, I was working at both WBCN, a rock station (more on that later) and at Minuteman National Historical Park, so sometimes, within the same day, I'd have to shift from "Thank you for visiting this hallowed ground, where our forefathers fought and died for our freedom..." to "Duuuuude, Courtney Love really needs to up her meds, man." In other words, I can pretty much do any sort of narration you ask for.

My Voice Experience

I am a DJ/On-Air Announcer at WBCN, a rock radio station in Boston, MA. I have worked there for the last four years, doing the normal sort of DJ stuff that DJs do. I play music, I come up with interesting and/or witty things to say about said music, I interact with drunken callers at two in the morning. I have also hosted or emceed several promotional appearances and concerts, and voiced a couple of promos and ads.

I have also home-recorded, performed, and mixed a CD of my own music (think The Killers meets U2 meets The Pixies, maybe?) under the name The Pluto Tapes.

I worked with the National Park Service as a Park Ranger at historical houses and sites in Lowell, MA and Concord/Lexington, MA, off-and-on from 1999-2004.

My Training

I have a B.A. in Theater (with a minor in Mass. Communications) from the University of Maine, where I studied with Sandra Hardy.
I've taught theater to schoolkids as well, and have taught them how to "project", how to use their voices to create characters, etc.

I also trained with legendary DJ and radio guru Oedipus (Ed Hyson), who used to be my PD at WBCN. He taught me what makes for good radio vs. what makes for bad radio, how to express an idea within a short period of time, and that people respond to you better if you allow yourself to be genuine.

Also, I was in the high school chorus for four years, winning the "Best in Chorus" award twice. I figure this has to count for something, somewhere.

Additional Skills

As I mentioned before, I write and perform music (sort of indie rock/pop style). I taught myself how to record and mix music on the computer, and have professional recording equipment at home. So, if you need something done yesterday, call me and I'll bash something out.

I play guitar, piano, and am willing to write jingles and the like.

I have also always been interested in audio drama (I know a couple of the SecondShift folks, and once did a 3-D audio version of "Where The Wild Things Are" for a sound design class.) If anyone's looking for help with an audio play, please by God let me know. :)
