Voice Description
Expressive: I am able to communicate a broad range of emotions through my voice - from amusement to sadness. This flexibility and range is very helpful for commercial reads, and allows me to deliver a range of approaches to text so they can pick the best for their purposes. This has always come naturally to me, but I have learned to harness and focus this ability through theater training and performance.
Comic: I am a funny guy and have very good comic timing. I perform improv comedy and stand-up in NYC and train at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater. This comes across very effectively in my delivery of humorous commercial copy. I can do a lot of funny and silly voices -- most are not subtle, but certainly not "over-the-top" either. These sount great for animation and radio commercials.
Authoritative: I am very well read and (probably) over-educated -- so I tend to sound like I know what I am talking about. This makes my work on presentations and training materials very effective. I am somewhat of an auto-didactic polymath, so I am very comfortable reading text in anything from a marketing video for the pharmaceutical industry to technical training material to eLearning. I have a degree in History and Philosophy, a Law degree and have studied Communication Theory in Grad School. My career has included work in media relations for a Washington, DC lobbyist, as the Debating Coach and Lecturer in Public Speaking at Stanford University,as a successful trial lawyer and over a decade as an Executive and Consultant in the technology and telecom industry.
Resonant: My baritone has a firm bottom (and who doesn't like a firm bottom!). While I can do the booming "voice of God", that is not what most of my reads sound like. Rather, there is a soothing undertone of bass that makes the higher registers pop. This works great for narrations, business presentations and marketing videos.
Warm: My natural tone is very warm and soothing. I am normally a fairly relaxed person and this comes across in how I speak. This tone is most effective for narrations and eLearning. That being said, I am not always warm and fuzzy -- and that range is clearly evident in my voice when a soft and comforting delivery is not appropriate.

My Voice Experience
My voice has been my calling card for most of my life. Since 2009, I have been working and training as a professional voice actor. Being based in New York has afforded me the opportunity to train with a number of voice over coaches and acting teachers, which has greatly broadened my ability to take direction, make choices in readings and deliver professional and compelling recordings.
I have been active in theater since I was 10 years old. I did voice over work on some animated recruiting videos for the Boy Scouts of America, but my focus was musical theater and comedy. While I continued with theater, my focus switched in High School to Speech and Debate, leading to a college scholarship to Emory University for Debate. After college, I served as a debate coach and lecturer in public speaking at Stanford University and University of Iowa. Throughout college and as a coach, I was involved in the creation of a series of training videos used to train aspiring debaters. Also, at Stanford, I recorded teaching materials that were used to help non-native speakers with accent reduction. My speech background also comes out in my voice through clear diction, projection and the ability to speak very fast while still enunciating each word.
My Training
I have a BA in History and Philosophy from Emory University and a JD from American University - Washington College of Law.
Since 2009, I have been writing comedy, performing and training with the Upright Citizen's Brigade (UCB). This group, founded by Amy Pohler, is widely considered the benchmark for improvisational and sketch comedy. I have also taken an intensive 5 week training course at PDR Voice Coaching in New York, taught by Peter Rofe.
I also have worked a spokesperson for a Washington, DC lobbying group, a trial and commercial lawyer and an executive and consultant in the technology and telecommunications industries.
I am an excellent writer and editor, and am happy provide copy or just offer suggestions or feedback on scripts upon request.
My Studio Equipment
I have a professional studio in my home. It is located in a space that has been acoustically treated to the specifications of a sound engineer certified by Auralex, the leading manufacturer of professional acoustical treatments.
For sound editing and mixing, I use the Pro Tools software suite on a dedicated PC that is connected to an Avid M-Box.
I track using an Audio Technica AT4040 Condenser microphone, mounted on a stand surrounded by an Auralex Mudguard reflection filter, and Sennheiser HD280 pro headphones.
My studio monitors are made by Acoustic Energy.
Additional Skills
I have been told by numerous producers, directors and engineers that I take and use direction very well during recording sessions. With over 20 years experience as an attorney and businessman, I understand the priorities of commercial clients and speak the language of marketing. This also provides a "check" on my creative energy, allowing me to direct that energy in a professional way that adds the most value to my client.
