Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

As a result of being placed in front of the TV for long periods of time as a child, I've develpoped the ability for character voices, as well as a few accents that have actually made people think I'm not a Pennsylvania native.

I can perform several accents, including British (dignified or cockney), Southern (gentlemanly or down right cantankerous hillbilly), New York style (How you doin'!), Russian, Irish, Scottish and Indian.

I have been told that I do a wicked Stewie from "Family Guy", Shaggy from "Scooby-Doo" and Christain Bale's version of "Batman"...although I need several mops to clean up after that particular one. I can go from everyone's favorite purple pal "Barney" one minute to everyone's favorite champ "Hulk Hogan" the next!

My Voice Experience

As a kid, I always played around on my father's tape recorder, performing shows straight from Mad Magazine using different voices for each character. When I was in Kindergarten, I discovered that I could make my family laugh by reading our class newspaper as Howard Cossell.

In 1987, I landed my first job in radio with Kinzua Broadcasting in Warren, PA. It was there where I learned a few tricks of the trade as far as announcing. I recorded a few commercials, none that were memorable. But it gave me a chance to see what it was like.

Then, in 1999, I got a job working for Magnum Broadcasting as a DJ. I was messing around with a script that one of the other DJ's recorded some time ago. It was for a mexican restaurant and I felt the read could've sounded more "authentic". I sat in the studio and read it aloud, sounding like Cheech Marin. The sales rep in the other room heard me and asked me to re-record the spot, asking about other voices that I could do. From that point on, I was the "go-to" guy for any sort of character voice that needed recorded.

From there in 2000, the radio station (WRLP-FM) was sold to Vox Allegany (becoming WQFX-FM). The new management took notice of my recording skills and thought "If the kid can be creative with voices, he should be creative with writing!". It was at that point when I became Production Director for the station, writing scripts and doing "funny little voices". I eventually left the radio station in 2002 to pursue other endevours.

In 2005, I was hired again by Magnum Broadcasting as the Production Director. After being out of the business for so long, it was great getting back into the creative swing of things. As a result of commercials I have recorded, Magnum Broadcasting has signed on many clients to their respective stations in State College, PA, Philipsburg, PA, Chambersburg, PA and Watertown, NY. I am presently employed by Magnum Broadcasting to this very day.

In 2007 and 2008 respectively, I won the Pennsylvania Association of Broacasters Award for "Outstanding Commerical", an honor that I am very humbled to have recieved.

My Training

As far as formal education, I guess I would have to say I graduated Magnum Cum Laude from the School of Hard Knocks.

I essentially have honed my craft in my spare time by listening to others and trying to follow their example, all the while being my own individual.

I pretty much trained myself in the useage of Cool Edit 2.0. It was one of those things where the owner of one of the stations I worked for sat me down, showed me where the record and playback buttons were and left the studio. I believe his exact words were "You figure out the rest". Needless to say, by the end of the week I was adding effects into commercials that no one in the market has heard, unless in was produced in a big time production house.

My Studio Equipment

I have access to a recording studio here in State College at the radio station where I presently work. We use Cool Edit 2.0 for recording commercials. I have become very proficient at using this program over the course of the past 6 years.

Recordings can be sent via e-mail from our studio.

Additional Skills

In my duties as Production Director, not only have a voiced many commercials, but I have written them, as well.
