My Voice Experience

I do not have a career in voice overs. It is an idea I have toyed with ever since I was a teenager. Remember? The 900 number comment. More recently I was told that I should be reading children's books. The comment was, 'You have a very warm, soft voice. You should be reading children's books. Your voice is very soothing.' Does that mean that I am too old to be sexy - or was that a polite way of saying 'You have a soft voice. You should have a 900 number.' I vote for the latter. I do have an ego to protect. :-)

In regard to professional experience, I have done radio and television commercials. In the 90's I worked at Channel 31, WAAY TV where I was in several commercials and promos. After that I did a couple of radio commercials for 104.3 WZYP. This was in Alabama.

My Training

I worked in television for five years. I have never taken any classes for voice overs. I cannot say that it is a form of training, but reading aloud is my preferred choice of study. While studying for a test, I read the material aloud in the way of giving instructions. I read in a formal, precise, professional, instructive manner. I am reading to myself. I retain the information moreso than reading silently. Again, it is the manner in which I read it.

My Studio Equipment

I have no equipment, however I have audio experience. I was an audio operator for four years at WAAY. I was the station manager at WTZT for another year. I did my share of audio there as well.

Additional Skills

Since my non-compete put a halt on my television career, I have become an office brat. I remained an office brat because the money is better. I miss the adventure. I miss the "One minute till air." Doing voice overs will offer a new challenge. If it doesn't happen, the only thing I will have lost is a challenge. Of course, you will have lost an opportunity to meet this southern belle.
