My Voice Experience
I'm new to the field. I took a voice-over class with Ruth Franklin around 2003 that produced a demo. I intended to follow-up but got side-tracked by unemployment and my writing and literary consulting. I did record audiotape versions of two publishing classes I used to teach through Poets & Writers, Inc. This was before I took the voice-over class, and my voice sounds beleaguered on those tapes, which is a sweeter version of the criticism I received in the class. Everybody in the class improved their voices from insult and with practice, and cheering each other on. I have been on the radio (Brian Lehrer WNYC) in 2006 to promote the anthology, The Subway Chronicles, in which an essay of mine appeared, but that's just chatting and storytelling. I give many talks to writers at conferences and literary centers related to publishing, and I have read my poetry or prose at venues in New York City, Hoboken, New Haven, Paris, and elsewhere.
