Voice Description

I have a very deep voice like Barry White so I can naturally do a seductive male voice. I can also do character voices such as a tough guy for a hard sell, a refined sounding gentleman for narration, and a hellfire and brimstone preacher, so I have a great deal of flexibility. English is my native language but I can also speak Spanish and even Japanese. I can do all kinds of English accents such as southern, new york, UK, and Australian. For Spanish I can sound smooth and natural like a native speaker or sound like a non-native speaker mispronouncing the words to sound silly. I learned Japanese in college so I speak what would be considered standard Japanese, in which I can sound natural or purposefully mispronounce to sound silly. However, I can't speak the more colorful dialects such as Osaka-ben.

My Voice Experience

Since I've never pursued voice acting full time, I've only worked on two projects, but both were excellent experiences. My first project was done sort of as a favor to a friend of mine that worked in a small multimedia company. He went to a company picnic and invited me along and his bosses liked my voice so much they wanted to use me for an upcoming ad. The product was called the "Wait R Pad" which was for taking orders at a restaurant. I was the narrator for the video. I was told this was used as a selling tool to present to managers in the food industry. This was a particularly difficult recording for me and not just because it was my first time; but because something in the recording room gave me a terribly runny nose and made me sneeze a lot so I had to do several takes. The director of this project was the owner of the multimedia company. Eventually he went on to become an independant film director, and a few years ago his film "Bill's Gun Shop" was released.
My second project was for a friend of mine in college. He needed to produce a final project for his audio class and he decided to make his own radio show based on the classic Shadow radio program. I was cast as the lead, The Shadow. This was a really fun role to play and it turned out fantastic. My friend got an A and everyone else in the class wanted me for their audio projects. Unfortunately it was the end of the semester so there weren't any more opportunities for me.

My Training

I'm mostly self taught, I like to try impersonating celebrity voices and imitating characters. I have taken an intensive weekend bootcamp style acting course in which for about 10 hours a day I and a few other hopefuls were practicing under a very experienced voice actor. It was a very good experience for learning about the industry and the different styles actors commonly use. The focus of the course was commercials.
