My Voice Experience
I have done voice overs for commercials advertising the private language teaching school I worked as an English teacher for in Izmit Turkey. The advertisements required me to be a chirpy, energetic person as well as a student. I used my American accen in those commercials.
I often also imitate the voices of cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Olive Oyl, Elmer Fudd, etc. and animals such as a clucking chicken to amuse my 2 year old toddler and used to do so to entertain children I had been babysitting while I was in college.
I have also done part-time volunteer work as a voice over for puppet shows in Turkish for children orphaned by the earthquake.
I have done numerous voice overs in Urdu and English for GEO tv, Pakistan's prime news channel, which included one that made me a butt of jokes. I had to deepen my voice to do the voice over for a female wrestler, who was about double my size (I'm quite petite and slim, standing 5 foot 1 inch tall). I have also worked as a radio disc jockey for a local Turkish music channel, filling in for a friend, for about a week.
My Training
I have a 9 year working experience as a journalist where I've worked as a reporter and sub-editor for Pakistan's top news dailies, The News and DAWN. I have also worked as a news translator from English to Urdu and vice versa for Pakistan's prime news channel, GEO Tv and monitored news at the Reuters desk for the TV channel. I worked for GEO Tv on the ticker desk for 2 months in Dubai, UAE. I have also worked as a freelance sub-editor for the English website of the Turkish newspaper, Zaman in Istanbul, Turkey. I worked as a foreign correspondent for an Indian music magazine, Rock Street Journal, New Delhi, India. I have worked off and on as an English to Urdu translator for an Egyptian company.
