Five years ago, my chronic illness (Multiple Sclerosis) finally forced me to give up my 50+ hour a week business and stay home with my children. As one who loves to charm and interact with others, I missed my days on the phone and in conferences with parents convincing them that Sylvan Learning Center (my business) would help and was helping their child to be successful. Gone were the hugs, flowers and grateful tears along with my satisfaction of knowing I had made a difference.
One day, my husband put a post-it note on my laptop that said "voice." He gave me the idea to pursue voiceover work since "...it's your voice, how you say the right words that convinced all those people to enroll," was the gist of my husband's reasoning behind the note.
So, aside from recording the newspaper for the visually impaired, creating a voicemail message that worked for more than a decade for my business and recording PowerPoint and other business software presentations, I don't have a lot of recorded and edited experience. Rather, I have a lifetime of using my voice to get what I want.
My bachelor of science degree is in communications. I taught public speaking, English, drama, journalism and reading at the K-12 level for 10 years.
My Master of Arts in Education focused on the writing process.
I began my Ph.D. in Process Drama at The Ohio State University prior to moving to the Pacific Northwest.
I have completed online courses with Gravy For The Brain with artist Peter Dickson and producer/directosr Hugh Edwards.
I am currently enrolled in a voiceover independent study where I am recording demo reels in a professional studio.
